Well this is what it seems one goes through when healing..

  1. Heartbreak: An old tree is uprooted from your chest and lungs.
  2. Shock: At first you can’t even begin to figure out what to do. You just kind of sit there awhile staring at your gaping chest unable to breathe, choking on tears.
  3. Acceptance: You eventually are able to accept what has happened. There hole is still just as deep, leaving nothing but turned over soil and some remaining roots. You feel empty for a really long time.
  4. Growth: You spend time doing other things, ignoring the hole as much as possible. Meet new people, and do what you makes YOU happy. You are still effected by the lack of life that once grew tall from within you though. The hole in your chest will eventually absorb enough of your shedded tears to nourish some of the roots that were left in the soil when the tree was uprooted. Slowly but surely, after you have cried enough tears, you’re soul can begin to regrow.
  5. Ignoring the scars: After a long time, your heart is able to regrow an entire garden. You can flourish and discover what you are capable on your own. The hole will get smaller and be less noticeable once you begin to sprout new life around it. It may never be filled completely but it is easy to forget about when there is so much new beauty growing from your heart.
Sorry if that was way too long and/or hard to follow. I’ll never truly be “okay” over this situation, but I can still be happy. I guess I don’t really know exactly how to tell when you’re okay, but it eventually just hit you, and you’ll know, “I am more than this”.
